About Nue Ground

Founder Joanna Mangion

Whilst this vision emerges out of my background in fitness and hospitality (having worked for industry leaders like SoHo house group, first restaurant group, eight members clubs), it also has its roots in my childhood. Growing up in a household where everything was homemade and homegrown, gave me an early appreciation for the importance of knowing where our food comes from and whose hands it has passed through along the way.

My mother was passionate about natural health and medicine and I was brought up eating nutritious meals, making natural remedies and fermenting food, long before they became popular. This has always been a way of life for me, so naturally it felt important to incorporate this ethos into my household and nue | ground, in a way that is approachable and true to its roots, rather than simply following a trend.

My interest led me to develop knowledge in naturopathy and pursue diplomas in fitness and personal training, which have allowed me to share knowledge with people within my community. Sharing knowledge – just like sharing food – brings us together, and I love being able to help people along in their personal health journeys. I have been developing and sharing new healthy recipes for several years, supporting people wanting to build healthier lives at home, but also whilst out and about. It felt like the perfect time to open a café that could provide this – and so much more – to the community.

Values

SUSTAINABILITY

At Nue Ground, we are proud to be a part of the Sustainable Restaurant Association, collaborating with local businesses and industry leaders to ensure our café spaces align with our values. Every detail has been thoughtfully chosen to support our sustainability goals, from the handmade tiles and reclaimed concrete to the Good and Mojo sustainable bamboo lights and repurposed chairs. We use 100% bamboo Smartass toilet paper and refillable cleaning products in our bathrooms, demonstrating our dedication to eco-friendly practices.

We believe in working together with our customers to make a positive impact. It’s our responsibility to make sustainable choices as easy as possible. We encourage everyone to reuse and refill their water bottles—soon, we’ll offer refillable kombucha as well! Bring your reusable cups and enjoy a 25p discount on your drinks. Our disposable packaging, provided by DECENT, is made entirely from plant materials and is fully compostable. Additionally, 100% of our water sales support global water projects, and our takeaway water bottles are made from sugar cane, not plastic.

To further our commitment to reducing waste, we’ve partnered with the app Too Good To Go. Any unsold items will be offered at a 50% discount at the end of the day, ensuring that nothing goes to waste and allowing our community to access fresh, healthy food for less.

COMMUNITY

At Nue Ground, community is the heart of everything we do. Our dream was to create a café that not only serves our local area but also fosters a sense of belonging and connection. Through the Magic Stamp app, we reward our regular customers, but what truly keeps them coming back is the personal touch—our baristas remember their favorite coffee orders and those small details that make every visit special.

Each week, our space buzzes with a diverse flow of people: mums catching a break after the school run, freelancers and entrepreneurs thriving in our vibrant workspace, older couples enjoying tea and cake, local runners and cyclists refueling with healthy meals, and kids stopping by for a sweet after-school treat.

We also host a variety of curated monthly events, many of which are free, such as wellness workshops, networking gatherings, fitness sessions, and more. Explore our workshops and events to see what's happening this month!

LOCAL + ETHICAL PRODUCTS

Our retail offering is less about profit and more about introducing our customers to the local, independent, ethical, sustainable businesses, artists, and makers we love to support. A lot of research has gone into our range, and our staff will happily tell you the story behind each brand or product.

We hope that when you take home a product from Nue Ground, you take home a part of our vision for a future that puts people before profits, fosters community, and champions those leading the way to change in their specialist area.

Our shelves are stocked with a diverse range of products, or you can shop online for delivery at your convenience. If you’re looking for something specific, please let us know – we would love to help you source what you’re after, drawing on our network of local businesses that share our values!

NUE NIGHTS

Nue Ground is also open in the evenings for ‘Nue Nights,’ events designed to bring neighbors together to enjoy quiz nights, wine tastings, live music, and more.

We also have a full calendar of workshops, events, and masterclasses as we seek to continuously broaden our own and our customers' horizons, while supporting local talent.

In the evenings, we serve our selection of delicious food with organic wines, local spirits, and exceptional seasonal cocktails.
